    Bob Moreno
Bob Moreno18 people have no musical taste. Hope that number never increases.
    Contra Mundum
Contra MundumMax Roach said this was Ellington's cue to him and Mingus for this track: Think of a city like New York, and all the skyscrapers are tree trunks, but they are barely visible because of all the money flowing down the sides of the buildings like foliage. That’s the money jungle. And crawling around on the streets are serpents who have their heads up; these are agents and people who have exploited artists. Play that along with the music.” — From Rick Mattingly's The Drummer's Time.

    Ian Beddowes
Ian BeddowesAfter this session, these guys did not want to play with each other ever again. Yet if I was only going to be allowed to choose the best ten jazz albums of all time, this for me would be among them.
    jasonpfinch
jasonpfinchThe whole album is badass, kick-ass stuff. Fascinating contrast with Coltrane and Ellington together -- spacious, elegant.

    Shelton Hull
Shelton HullDuke Ellington was a very kind, gentle spirit, but he let his inner monster run free on this track. Respect forever on his name.

    sssnacksss
sssnacksssi love this trio and song! learning backstory is interesting, but really all the strange or “off” qualities here speak for themselves. the playing of all three are intense and the whole thing has a boiling, teetering feel.
    Stan Menshic
Stan MenshicAbsolutely wonderful & amazing collaboration that really was quite cutting edge for the time & still sounds profound! The new & old guard should combine more regularly if this was the result.
